Comparison
Spreadsheets are the right tool for a simple plan and a handful of reps. Here are the signs you have outgrown one, and what to use instead.
| Spreadsheet | CommissionSheet | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Free | Free in beta; flat price per company planned |
| Tiers & accelerators | Custom formulas per plan | Set once per plan |
| Split deals | Manual, error-prone | Automatic; bad splits flagged |
| Clawbacks | Tracked by hand | From the refund date, inside your window |
| Rep statements | Built by hand | One click per rep, print or PDF |
| History | File versions | Locked periods, compared rep by rep |
| Where data lives | Your drive | Runs in your browser — your data never leaves this computer |
Enterprise incentive-compensation platforms are powerful, but they are usually priced per payee plus a platform fee, and often need an onboarding project. For a team of 40 reps that can mean hundreds or thousands of dollars a month. If you need deep CRM sync, approval workflows across departments and audit controls, they are worth it. If you need exact payouts and clear statements from a CSV, a lighter tool does the job.
Export your deals as CSV, match the columns, recreate your plan's rates, and compare one past month against what you actually paid. If the numbers match, you're done.
